ESOL Term 3 Reflection

This term in our ESOL class, we did a lot of different activities. We did some grammar practice, reading, online tests, different types of worksheets, and writing a formal essay. We spend almost half of this term in lockdown so we didn't do much for the whole term. However, there are still some things that I enjoyed for this term in ESOL, I enjoyed doing grammar practices, reading lots of different stories and answering the question about it. I enjoyed all of this because I think it's really helpful to improve my knowledge and my ability to understand the story that I'm reading. But the thing that I enjoyed the most is writing the formal essay as an assessment, I like this because I saw how I get better at my writing and brainstorming. We did a lot of preparation for this essay and I like how my essay turned out. Also, writing this essay makes me proud of myself because I saw that I improved my ways of writing an essay and submitting it in time. Next term, I would like to learn and do something new in this class. However, I still want to do some of these things, it might be boring for some of us but I think it's really helpful. There are some things that I would like to do better next term such as blogging, getting a better score in online tests, and put more effort into my works to get an excellent result. I hope next term will be fun for all of us since it's our last term for this year.

Holiday Trip

Among all the holiday trips that we've had, my favorite one is when we went to Queenstown. This is also the most enjoyable trip that I've had with my family and relatives. Before we went to Queenstown, we went to different places to stop and take some rest properly. We used three cars because my grandparents are also here and we need space for them. First, we went to Dunedin and check-in at the hotel for two days. After that, we continue until we finally reach our destination. In Queenstown, we went to different places to buy a lot of things for souvenirs. At night, we did camping in Cromwell since it's too later for us to went back to Christchurch. This holiday trip is my favorite because it's our first time spending the holiday with my grandparents here. Also, it's my first time going to those places with my family and relatives. I enjoyed it a lot of I hope that we can do it again.

Term 1 Reflection

First-term is almost done, and today is our last day. In ESOL, we need to do a blog post about the lesson that we have learning and how we feel in our first term this year.

First-term this year in ESOL is new for me this year since this is the first time that we met our new teacher. The lessons are easy, and it's not that complicated as I expected. Some of them are what we already did last year. However, even though we already did some of them the tasks that we have been doing are still helpful for us to improve our grammar and other skills. Our class is not new to me because I am with most of them in ESOL for the past few years. I like this subject and I can't wait to go back in term two and learn more things. I'm enjoying the things that we have been doing so far and, I found some of them helpful.

My Favorite Cultural Event

Today is ESOL, we wrote an essay talking about our favorite cultural event. Also we need to include in out essay the things that we are doing to celebrate this particular event in our culture. Our essay needs to have 250-300 words on it. We also need to put our essay in our blog. The event the I picked is the Festival Of Black Nazarene, I decided to choose this because it's one of the most important event for my family.

This is my essay:

As a Filipino we have a lot of different cultural events. We are celebrating them in many different ways, some of them don't really need to do a celebration. The event that is really important for my family is the Festival of Black Nazareno. This is important in our country especially those who are Catholic. This is also one of the famous and popular festivals that is happening in the Philippines every year. Black Nazareno is a life size imagine, kneeling Jesus while carrying the cross. A lot of people, even my family, believed that this statue could heal any sickness after you touched it. The festival for this is happening every January 9 every year, a lot of people will help each other to carry it and do a little parade. Since this festival is really important for a lot of people, a lot of people will try their best to touch the Nazareno for a blessing.

Some people have a piece of cloth to wipe it on the Nazareno figure, this is really important that most of the news and channels are talking and showing about the Festival of Black Nazareno. When I was in the Philippines, me and my family used to go and contribute to those festivals of the Black Nazareno. After we moved here in New Zealand, we can only see it through live and news from the Philippines. It is not really complicated like the other church events so my family doesn't really need to do such a particular thing to celebrate it. But we used to watch a mass that was happening before they started the parade. We are celebrating a lot of different cultural events but I can say that this one is my favorite because it’s about church and I know that this is really important not just in my culture but also in my religion.

Respect - ESOL

Respect is one of the most important manners that we need to have. For me being respectful can be shown is many different ways. In our school respect is one of our values, our teachers expected us to be respectful to them, to school property or to our classmates. It is important that we know how to be respectful anywhere and anytime. For me, if you don't know how to respect others then you don't know how to respect yourself. Some people said that you should know how to respect yourself first before the other people. There is a lot of ways that you can be respectful.

  • Talking with right and proper manner, especially if they are older than you.
  • Listening or giving attention if someone is talking to you or trying to explain.
  • At school, listening to your teacher and also to your classmates.
As a student, I have my own definition and my own opinion what respect should look like in school. In class, we should know how to show respect to our teacher and to other students. Make sure that once you enter the classroom you know those things that you should't do while learning. Also it is important that we know how to listen to others especially when they are talking or presenting something in class.

Athletics Day - ESOL

This week we only have one period in ESOL, it is because one of our esol period got taken by the athletics day. Our athletics day is really fun and I enjoyed it a lot, I am in social group so I don't need to get competitive on the games that I did. Even though I'm social group i still tried my best because every time we are showing or doing effort our kahui will get a point. I am in Riroriro kahui, I like how our kahui sang and shout our chant. For me I think our kahui is the most energetic kahui when we are doing our chant. On the relay competition our kahui gets the first place almost all of it, me and my friends are really loud and we almost lost our voice because we are shouting to much. At the end of the day, our kahui won and we got first place at of all the 3 kahui. It was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot, I can't wait to have another school program like that.

Name Acronym - ESOL 10

For esol class, we did acronyms using our name. We did this because we want to make our classroom more colorful because it's so plain. I decided to use canva for my poster. I also used different colors for my name and colorful background. The words that I use for my name are the personalities that I have. Below this poster you will see 2 paragraphs. Those paragraphs are explaining why I am sincere and helpful.

I can say that I’m sincere because even though I like making funny jokes

I know those things that need to be talked about in a serious way. In other words I might

be a joker but I know how to express my feelings sincerely when based on the situation. I

don’t just laugh when the situation is something serious. I can be sincere in everyone not

just to my family and friends.

The other one is me being helpful. I really like helping others, especially when they really need it. I am willing to help everyone as long as I can. If I can’t be able to help them then I will give them advice on how they can solve their problem. I love helping people especially when it’s my friends, family and some who are really important to me.

321RIQ Technique - ESOL 10

Today we've learned a new technique how we can write our blog in a different way. This technique is called "321RIQ", the number and the letter in this word means something. The 3R is standing for three recalls, this means you need to write down in your blog the 3 things that you can recall or remember in your topic. The 2I is about two insights, this means you will put in your blog the two new things that you've learnt, this needs to be the new things that you didn't know before. The last one is the 1Q, this one is all about asking question about the topic that we have been learning. This is very important because this can give u a chance to ask and clear the confusion by asking a question.

Last week we've started our ESOL class for this year. Since we have a new teacher we started to get to know each other, we played a game where you can introduce yourself and to remember your teacher's and other classmate's name. In this game we need to say an adjective that starts on the first letter of our name and one thing that we like that also starts in the first letter of our name. After that we also wrote a introduction for our teacher to know us better.

So far in our ESOL class the one of the things that I've learned or new for me is the game. I've never play or know this game before so this is new for me. The other one is the 321RIQ that we've just learnt today. Even if I understand the 321RIQ I still wanted to learn more about this and who invented this.

I really find this technique helpful because this can make it easier for you to blog. You don't need to tell everything that you've done in your class, instead you will just writing what you have learned on that day
