Burger Competition

The burger that we made turn out good and, I can say that we did present the color, flavor, and texture well. The color of our burger comes from the other ingredients we put in it like, tomato, lettuce, pickle, and sauces. It gave our burger more eye-catching for the judges. Next is the texture. I think the main thing that gave our burger texture is the pattie. The pattie that we made is deep-fried and covered by bread crumbs so, it's crispy and has more texture. The last one is the flavor. I think our group achieved this well since the judges liked the taste of our burger.

The competition went well and, my groups like the score that we got for the texture, color, and flavor. However, the buns at the bottom of the burger are a bit saggy because we forgot to remove the seeds on the tomato, and we put a lot of sauce. Next time we would to improve this type of things in our food and use the opinion of the judges to do better.

Wananga Reflection

In ESOL, we have been reading a book called Skink Gully. The story is about two boys called Dylan and Nimish, who spend their holiday on the farm with Dylan's dad and their dog Zeb. Nimish is a boy who grew up in the city, so he doesn't know the life on the farm. When they are on the farm, they started to discover a lot of weird and spooky things. They also met Tamsin and her dad Stuart. We just completed reading 1 - 3 chapters of the book at the moment.

Chapter one most of it is just an introduction of the characters and telling us how they ended up spending their holiday on the farm. Chapter two is when they heard a gunshot while relaxing and did an investigation about it. The last chapter that we've read for this week is chapter 3. For this chapter, they started to find things like animal's dead bodies and more weird things.

I'm enjoying reading this book because I learned a lot of new words from it. I will be doing more reflection about this book.

St Paul's College

Holiday Trip

Among all the holiday trips that we've had, my favorite one is when we went to Queenstown. This is also the most enjoyable trip that I've had with my family and relatives. Before we went to Queenstown, we went to different places to stop and take some rest properly. We used three cars because my grandparents are also here and we need space for them. First, we went to Dunedin and check-in at the hotel for two days. After that, we continue until we finally reach our destination. In Queenstown, we went to different places to buy a lot of things for souvenirs. At night, we did camping in Cromwell since it's too later for us to went back to Christchurch. This holiday trip is my favorite because it's our first time spending the holiday with my grandparents here. Also, it's my first time going to those places with my family and relatives. I enjoyed it a lot of I hope that we can do it again.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch - News article

For this blog post, I will show you the news article that we've made. This news article is still about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Before we do this news article, we did a brainstorm as a class about writing. We talked about some ways and techniques that we can use to make a good and proper paragraph for our new articles. It helps me a lot because I understand that I need to improve some features in my work.

I put the causes and effects in my news article with the problems that we have in our ocean. Related to the previous blog posts about this topic, you will also see the causes and effects.
I used this website called "canva" to make this poster. If my work is not clear to read, here is the LINK.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

For this term, we have been learning about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Also, this term we will be exploring more about this topic and do a lot of activities base on this topic.

We have 5 gyres in our planet, but the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is the largest gyre. Having these garbage patch in our oceans is very helpful for us and to those animal living on the ocean. However, there are still a lot of garbage in the ocean and the amount of it is keep on increasing.

I made a presentation based on the things that I know and the facts that I discover after my research. For this blogpost, you will see some of the causes and effects why are we having those garbage on the ocean and the effects. I hope you will learn a lot of things after reading my work.

Wananga Reflection - Bullying/Cyber-Bullying

What is bullying?

It is about hurting someone physically or mentally in many different ways. Bullying someone smaller or weaker than you. You can call it bullying if you can that there is an imbalance of power. It is bullying when it is happening over and over again, however, it's not bullying if it just happened once. Two people can be involved in bullying, you can be the victim or the bully.

  • Victim - The victim is the person that got hurt, most of the victim in bullying is someone who doesn't have any friends or someone weak compare to others.
  • Bully - This person is the one who keeps hurting or saying a lot of mean things to another person. Bullies can bully someone not just in person but also online. This is called "Cyber-bullying".

What is Cyber-Bullying?

Cyberbullying is bullying online, most of these issues are happening on social media. You can get mean texts saying anything to insult you. Cyberbullying is common now since most teenagers have social media. Same with normal bullying, you will see an imbalance of power. If you are experiencing cyberbullying do the 3 simple steps as soon as you got the message. Block, report, and tell an adult.

If you think you're getting bullied telling an adult will be the best option to do. But, if you think you are the bully and you're bullying them online or in person, you should stop. We never know what they are going through and bullying them is not helpful.

The Starfish Poem

The Starfish Poem

Once upon a time there was a wise man

who used to go to the ocean

to do his writing.

He had a habit of walking

on the beach

before he began his work.

One day he was walking along

the shore.

As he looked down the beach,

he saw a human

figure moving like a dancer.

He smiled to himself to think

of someone who would

dance to the day.

So he began to walk faster

to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw

that it was a young man

and the young man wasn't dancing,

but instead he was reaching

down to the shore,

picking up something

and very gently throwing it

into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out,

"Good morning! What are you doing?"

The young man paused,

looked up and replied,

"Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked,

why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up and the tide is going out.

And if I don't throw them in they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realize that

there are miles and miles of beach

and starfish all along it.

You can't possibly make a difference!"

The young man listened politely.

Then bent down, picked up another starfish

and threw it into the sea,

past the breaking waves and said-

"It made a difference for that one."

What is the main message of the poem? The poem is about a boy who simply put one starfish back to the water. However, there is another person who told him that even if hes doing that he can't make any difference. The didn't listen to him keep doing it. So base on this situation, it is telling us the small and simple things can make a lot of difference.

Give evidence for this. The last line of the poem is the evidence that proving that even small and simple thing can make a lot of changes.

Corrosion Experiment

Investigating Rusting

Aim: To investigate the factors that cause rusting in iron.

Equipment: four test tubes, test tube rack, a bung, four iron nails, boiled water, tap water, salty water, cooking oil, calcium chloride.

Method

  1. Label four test tubes A - D and place in a test tube rack.
  2. Test tube contents: A = Iron nail and tap water. B = Iron nail and salty water. C = Iron nail boiled water, oil. D = Iron nail and calcium chloride. Sealed with  bung.
  3. Leave the test tubes undisturbed for at least three days.
Observation:

Test Tube

Condition present or absent

Observation

A

Nail

In test tube A, the nail didn't show any corrosion reaction since we didn't put anything.

B

Tap water + nail

Among all the test tubes that we have for this experiment. The test tube b that had salt water and the nail showed the most big corrosion.

C

Salt water + nail

This test tube shows a little bit of corrosion reaction and some rust can be seen covering the nail.

D

Boiled water +oil + nail

The oil that we put in the test, stay on the top of the water. It didn't corrode that much since the nail is covered by oil.

E

Ca Cl + bung + nail

Out of all the nail that is mixed with different things, this is the only nail that didn't show any corrosion reaction.

F

water + Vaseline + nail

The nail corrode a little but it didn't mixed with the water since it's covered by Vaseline.

G

water + painted nail

The nail corrode a little bit, I wasn't expecting it since it was covered by paint but I'm wrong.

H

Zn + water + Nail

For the last tube there are some rust that you can see mixing with the water.
