Digestive System - Science Hurumanu

Teeth

How do these organs help our body digest food?

It helps us by tearing the hard parts of our food. It chews our food and combines our food with saliva which turns it into Bolus. A term used to describe food that has been chewed.

Why are they important for our survival?

Your teeth are important for your survival because if you don’t have teeth, you have nothing to chew your food.

Esophagus

How do these organs help our body digest food?

After the food turns into bolus in your mouth the next process will be the contracting and squeezing the food together in your esophagus. This will make the good moves down from the esophagus to the stomach.

Why are they important for our survival?

This organ is important because they are helping us in the digestion process. If we don’t have this organ it can be hard for us to digest the food.

Stomach

How do these organs help our body digest food?

The stomach is one of the most important organs that is needed to be able to digest food. The stomach breaks down the food that you chewed and swallowed. The stomach’s strong muscles start to work and act like a blender which turns the bolus into a usable form.

Why are they important for our survival?

Like I said before, the stomach is an important organ in our body because it breaks down the food that you have chewed and swallowed. It then sends the ‘usable form’ into the small intestine and carries on from there.

Small Intestine

How do these organs help our body digest food?

Small intestine is helping our body to absorb the nutrients in the food. This organ is also carrying the most work for our digestive process.

Why are they important for our survival?

As I said, the small intestine is the organ that does most of the work is the digestion process.

Large Intestine

How do these organs help our body digest food?

The job of this organ is to absorb the remaining nutrients, minerals and water in your body. This organ is also helping to change the leftover waste into bowel movements.

Why are they important for our survival?

This organ is important because if we don’t have a large intestine we won’t be able to have water in our body. We all know that almost every part of our body needs water so we need an organ that can help us to absorb water.

Liver

How do these organs help our body digest food?

Liver is the organ that absorbs some of our body needs. One of the things that we need in our body that our liver is absorbing is fats.

Why are they important for our survival?

Our body needs fat but not too much. So this is the reason why our liver is important for our survival.

Rectum

How do these organs help our body digest food?

The Rectum is filled with nerves that sense when it is full and when the body waist (poop) is ready to be evacuated. The waist stays in the rectum until the time comes for the evacuation.

Why are they important for our survival?

The rectum is important because it is the only organ that stores the waist until it’s time for the evacuation to take place.

Anus

How do these organs help our body digest food?

After the digestion process and the rectum is filled with waste it will come out into anus. Basically, that is what you call poo.

Why are they important for our survival?

It is important to our body to let out the waste and we can get sick if the waste stays in our body.

Slinkachu - Arts

For the half of our term we have been learning about slinkachu. We do some research some information about the founder and different examples of it. Our teach share a slides to each one of us to complete before the school year ends. In the slide you can see some information explaining what is slinkachu and more detail about the different slinkachu project. After we have done this part, we choose our own example and identify the different composition of art. On our chosen image we started to identify what is the focal point, leading line, asymmetry and symmetry.

After identify this things on our own chose image, we started to sketch it. Basically, in this part we're just copying the image, we did the same thing with both of this activity. After this two tasks the next thing is all about doing and making our own slinkachu. It took me a long time to be able to have any idea and inspiration for my work. After spending a few weeks for my slinkachu idea, I finally came up with my own idea. You can find all the information about it on the last slides.

EOTC Week - 8 Water Ways Safety

Hi everyone, since next week we are gonna do our EOTC week for this year. Our teacher decided to give different tasks about it. I decided to do  a task about '8 water ways safety' today. I choose this because it is easy to finish. We used canva for our posters and upload it in our blog.

Coraline Challenges Chart - Film Studies

 What Am I learning?

For this week task we are learning about the challenges that the characters faced on the film, how they solved this and what are they reactions to it. Also we are trying to identify what each of them shows to us.

How does my work show my learning?

I used canva to present my learning. This is showing that I can understand the different questions that we need to answer.

What am I wondering?

During this time I started to wonder if we all the characters on the film are facing a problem.

Discovery Task - Health Hurumanu

Hi everyone, for our health class after we've done our previous topic we started our new topic. This is not like the topic that we have been learning before. For this one we can choose the topic that interests us and the topic that we want to do a different task. Firstly, we need to decided if we want to do it in pair or by yourself. Since, my friend wants to do filming we decided to do it in pair. The topic that we choose is ASPD or Antisocial Personality Disorder.

Firstly, we had to do our planning sheet, in this part we are doing some different tasks that is all about our topic. First thing we are choosing 5 big questions that we wants to answer, for our answers for this questions we need to use a different key concept as many as we can. Also the questions that we choose for this part have a different color that are representing the different stages. The questions that we choose has one red, 2 yellow and 2 red.

Red - Legend
Yellow - Pro
Green - Rookie

Once we have done our big questions we started to do our strategies. In this part we are giving some of  the strategies that we can use for our topic and telling if this affects us in long/short term, also we are identifying what part of the hauora/well being each one of our strategies. After we've done all of it me and my partner start to think what we might do. We decided to do the filming, one of my friend decided to work with us since er topic can be combined with our one.

While doing this task I experience some struggles but I can say that I did good with most of it. For me I think my big struggle on this task is when we started to do our filming. I really hate filming myself so I don't feel comfortable while doing this and I need to have a lot of courage to do it properly. But I think the other work/tasks is alright for me, I can say that I did good to it.

Mythical Creatures - ESOL Halloween Project

Last week because it's Halloween, we have been learning about different cultural mythical creatures. Because of this we are doing a Halloween project. We can work in this individually or as a group. Me and my friends decided to work as a group because we want to do a filming to show the topic that we chose. I have Janel and Alliah in my group and for our  topic. we choose to do one of the most scary mythical creatures in the Philippines called " White Lady".

What is white lady?

This mythical creature is not just popular in the Philippines. Most of the horror movie that we have watched before is showing what this actually looks like. In my country we said that the white lady is a girl with long dress that are covering her whole body and with the very long hair that covering her whole face.

Why did we choose this topic?

We choose this topic because as I said this is one of the most common scary creatures that we have in our country. Also there is a lot of people that are sharing their experience about seeing white lady before. We also know most of the characteristics that they have such as their actions and what would they look like. So this gave us an easy work because we just need to film and edit it.

This is the video that we made, I hope you will like it.

Heart Dissection - Science Hurumanu

This week for our science hurumanu we are dissecting a pig's heart. We did this because so we can identify the different part of a heart. For this week we have been learning about the different part of the heart and the function of it. While dissecting the heart we seen 4 different parts of the heart.

What have we been learning about?

We have been leaning about the different parts of the heart and how it is working and helping our body. Heart is important because it helping us to keep alive. Also hear is helping to pumps our blood all over our body. It also helps to pump oxygen. Being able to identify the different parts of the heart is really important. Because we have been leaning about this we did a hear dissection.

Why are we dissecting heart?
We are dissecting a heart to we can see what it actually looks like and to see the different part of it. Being able to identify the different part of the heart using the real example of it.

What are the parts of the heart? Did you see them? This is the part of the heart that we have been learning about. The other heart that we used for this experiment doesn't have the tube in it and the atrium but the heart that our group has has the atrium.

Parts Of The Heart
  • Atrium - This is the top part of the heart and the one of is receiving the blood.
  • Ventricle - This is the one who is pumping the blood away from the body.
  • Valves - The function of this part is to move the blood all over our body.
  • Pulmonary Artery - This the part of our heart that pumping the oxygen to our lungs.
Did you enjoy the dissection? Why/why not?
I enjoyed dissecting a heart because it helps me to see where is the places of the different parts and helping to understand how it actually working and what how does the different part of the heart helping each other. I am looking forward to this ind of dissecting again.

The Ocean Pollution - Essay

   The Ocean Pollution

Can you imagine what it feels like having a polluted ocean? Our planet is covered with 71 percent of water. Even though it is renewable it is still a concern for us to have it polluted. Ocean pollution can have a big impact on different things, such as wildlife, sea creatures and their habitats. There are alot of reasons why the ocean is getting polluted. It can be because of natural things or human activities. But we are talking about pollution so it’s mostly about human activities. So in this essay I will be talking about the causes and effects of ocean pollution.

Oil Spill is one of the reasons why we are having ocean pollution. This can be really worse than we expected it to be if we didn’t solve it as soon as possible. Oil spills can be caused by the ships having an issue or problem that can make the oil flow into the ocean. Oil spills are the result of an accident, such as a tanker colliding with another ship or running aground in shallow water. Rubbish can also be the reason for ocean pollution, Why? Because the more rubbish they will stay in the water the more chances of it to be polluted. Even though it will just stay for a little time it will still leave some germs or dirty substances in the water.

This can have a big impact in different things in our planet, for example if different types of rubbish mixed in the water it will create a big pollution and make it smell gross, we know that water is important for us so just imagine if the water that we are using smells gross and you can see the dirty things in it. We don’t want this to happen so be resporsible not just for your own good but also for the other people. Oil spill, can be the cause of ocean fish waste and making the sea creatures die, also this can destroy their habitat. The longer that the oil stays in the water the wider that it will go so it is for the best if we solved this problem we can avoid the negative impacts in our ocean.

We may have a lot of things that can affect our ocean. We still have some solutions that we can do to avoid this and things that can help us to be more responsible for this. Pollution is because of our different activities so it’s also us that we need to solve this. Rubbish can be easier to resolve compared to oil spill. But still both of this is harmful for human and other living things on our planet. Since water is the most important thing that we need to have, we need to take care of our environment not just for the present but also for those other generations that are coming.

This essay is saying that ocean pollution can be worse that we are expecting it to be. This is also saying that this is not a joke and we need to have a solution for this as soon as possible. This piece of writing showing the different causes and effects of ocean pollution is our environment and our lives. It may sound simple but it is a major issue that we are dealing for our whole life. Taking care of our planet is the most helpful thing that we can do for ourselves and other people.

Last week we take a videos of us doing some skills that we have learn during gymnastics.

I did the really basic one because I don't know how to do the other skills. My friends take a video on me while I was doing this skill. The skill that I did is with the beam and I am trying t balance myself with the support of my knee.

Film Studies - Freytags Pyramid

What Am I learning?

We have been learning what is the plot of the movie and how can we show this using a timeline or a freytags pyramid.

How does my work show my learning?

This is showing that I am be able to summarize the film and divided it into different part of it. Also showing the I learned something new while doing this activity.

What am I wondering?

After this I finally know what the purpose of the plot and how can I summaries it using a timeline. I also learned the different part of freytags pyramid and how to divide the film into different part of it.

Film Study: Colour & Lighting

What Am I learning?

This week we have been learning about the lighting that they used for the entire film and writing a paragraph about the different part of the film that has the different lighting on it.

How does my work show my learning?

My work is showing that I understand the meaning and message of different lighting in the film and being able to explain them.

What Am I wondering?

During this topic I started to wonder why is it important to have this lighting to every part of the film.

The first time that we saw the real world in the film we can see that they used a lot of pale colors that made it look old, haunted and dry. Coraline’s family are living in a place called “ Pink Palace” . This name is already giving us a hint that the color of their house is pink. Also when we think that this is a palace we think that it’s like a colorful place. Once we saw the place it looked like someone could stay and live there. The lighting is natural that is coming from the cloudy weather. They used pale colors like white, grey and kinda yellowish to make it their house look like it's old. The garden looks like that all the plants are dead and when we saw Coraline walking outside all of the surroundings were all black.

After Coraline found out about the other world, she went there. The first thing that I saw was when Coraline went to the kitchen and saw the other mother cooking. In this part the lighting looks warm and relaxing, the lighting is artificial and the other mother looks kind, caring and soft. When the other mother asked Coraline to call the other dad we can see that he looks colorful and healthier compared to the other dad. The house in the other world is way more colorful, bright and looks warm. Even the other characters that we saw in the other world are way more colorful than the real them in the real world.

Fantasy Lit 2014: Coraline

When Coraline and the other mother started to argue about the button's eyes. We can see the lighting in the other world is way more brighter than before. The only difference is it is brighter not in a good way but it’s burgh that making the atmosphere feel creepy and scary. The other mother becomes more strict to Coraline and the lighting is combined with it very well. After the other mother changed her look the lighting became vivid and they used a lot of strong color to the scary mother. In this part of the movie we barely see a natural light because most of it is artificial and coming from different sources.

The Hidden Meaning of the Movie "Coraline" | Coraline, Coraline aesthetic, Coraline art

The last and ending part of the film. After Coraline finally stopped the other mother from her evil plan and finally came back to the other world. We can see that the lighting is not as bright as the other world but it’s not as pale as it used to be. In their house we can’t see a lot of things that change the color but the lighting looks happy and starts to get brighter. The ending part of the movie is when Coraline’s family and their neighbors start to fix their garden. The lighting is bright and natural. It is coming from the sun making it look way warmer and more inviting. compared to the first part of the movie. The lighting is cold.

What makes a good leader? Year 9 Leadership

Hi everyone, today I will be talking about what makes a good leader. Last week we have been learning about the characteristics of a good leader. We also made a video of us talking more about our topic. For most of us including me, this task is really hard because we are not comfortable filming ourselves. But since as a student this is normal and we just need to be brave and confident I did it anyways. This blog post will be showing the characteristics of a good leader and I will also put the video that I made.

Being a good leader needed to have a lot of efforts and hard works. They have a lot of characteristics and most of this are positive, because a word leader is a big word and it all about the whole group's sake. This qualities can make them a chance to be more powerful than others but we need to remember that we need to use this in positive way and not just to tell your group what do to so you don't have to do anything. We also have a lot of example of a good leader in our life.

First I will be talking about the things that a great leader have. This is just some of the qualities that they have but there's a lot more.

  • Confident
  • Respectful
  • Achievement
  • Ready to stand for the whole group
  • Brave
  • Confident
  • Respectful
  • Commitment
  • Listen to others opinion
  • Empathy
  • Responsible
  • Including everyone.
This is the video of myself that I made. If your watching the video you will hear that I am talking about what makes a good leader which I already said in this blogpost. I hope you will enjoy watching my video and give me some feedback about it so I can do better next time.

There is a one goof leader that I really like and I really admire. This person is a great leader for me because she can manage a whole country and try her best to make our country good. This person is Jacinde Adern. Ever since I start to know her I saw the changes that she make in our country and her sacrifices. I also admire her because I didn't expect her to be this good since she's a girl and I don't know any girl prime minister aside from her. What about you? Are you a good leader or do you know someone who is a great leader?

Coraline Film Paragraph

What Am I learning?

For this week we have been doing some sexxxy paragraph from the film that we watched. We choose 3 different images from the film and make an sexxxy paragraph for each of them.

How does this work show my learning?

This work is showing my ability to write a sexxxy paragraph. Also my ability to understand the film/movie that I watched.

What am I wondering?

I am wondering if there is any difference from this paragraph to any other paragraph and what is it.

S: In this part we can see the doll version of Coraline. This scene is basically the intro of the movie.

During this time we didn’t know that the hands belonged to the other mother because we are just focusing

our attention on the doll.

E: This scene demonstrates and shows how the other doll changed to Coraline’s doll version. We can see

that the first doll that shows in the window is a different doll but the hands started to change it to look like

Coraline.

X: This makes the audience feel confused at first because we didn’t know who is the doll and what is the

reason why they made the doll.

X: The director did this scene to give us a little bit of knowledge about the movie. The purpose of this

scene is to show that Coraline looks like.

X: This worked well with the camera angle and the lighting. The camera angles that they used for this are

showing the whole view of the doll with the dim and pale and making it a little bit scary/creepy.

Y:  This aspect can be compared when we saw Coraline in the film. We can see that the doll looks exactly

like her but their eyes are different. But at the end of the movie we realise that the doll is like a guide by the

other mother to turn Coraline look like the doll with the button eyes.

S:  This scene from the film is showing how Coraline's parents look like. We can also see in that background

the view of their kitchen.

E: The camera shot that they used for this is giving us the whole view of the parents and some part of their

kitchen. We can also say that the weather is not good because of the view outside.

E: This is making the audience feel a little bit creep out because of the style and the color of the house.

It looks like it’s abandoned and haunted.

E: The director uses these types of shots to give us the whole view of Coraline's parents and the color to help

us to see what type of house they are living in.

E: Combining the lighting, color and the camera angles together make the scene more interesting. It makes

the scene help Coraline to stand out because she is the only one that is colorful.

Y: This aspect can be compared to the look of the other parents in the other world. We can see a lot of

difference between them. That is helping us to identify who the real or fake parents of Coraline are.

S:  Based on the image we can see that they use a tilt angle. In this scene we know that Coraline went to

look around their house with the doll that looked like her. This is a point of view of the doll.

E: We can see this because after this scene it shows that the doll is on the corner which is like the image.

So it’s basically saying that the doll is looking at Coraline without her knowing.

E: This is making the audience feel scared. During this scene they also used scary and creepy background

music. The dark light makes it more look scary and haunted.

E: The director used this angle to make it more creepy for the audience. Also this camera shot is saying it

all, that the scene is all about the doll hiding and looking to Coraline.

E: Combining dark lighting and tilt shot, this makes the audience feel uncomfortable and scared for

Coraline. This is showing a little bit of tension between the doll and Coraline.

Y: This reminds me of the first time that Coraline meets Wybie. Both of the scenes have a lot of tension in it

and make us scared and uncomfortable. The camera angle that they use for both scenes makes it more

weird and creepy.

Arthritis Research - Hurumanu 2

What are the causes of arthritis?

This can be caused by the low immune system. If you don't have a fit and healthy body or you are not doing exercise. It is happening because of an infection called “reactive arthritis” that causes the tissue in your body to attack your own joints.

Can everyone get arthritis?

Yes, everyone can get this disease and we can all get it with a different age. If we are young or old it doesn’t matter at all because we call this anytime and any age.

Who is most likely to get arthritis?

Based on my research it is said that you are most likely to have arthritis when you're getting older and you don’t have time to get exercises or have some stretches.

What are the two most common types?

The two most common types of this are Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis.

  • Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation, pain, and swelling into the joints. Most people that can get this type of arthritis are those people that are 25 - 50 years old. Based on my research it says that there are more cases of women that have this compared to men.

  • Osteoarthritis is happening if the cartilage that protects the edge of the bones wears down over time. This arthritic disease is affecting millions of people worldwide.

What are ways to prevent arthritis?

  • Spend some time doing exercise or stretches.

  • Stop smoking and avoid injuries.

  • Stay healthy and control your body sugar.

  • Eat a lot of vegetables or any healthy food. It is good to at least eat fish twice a week.

How is it treated?

Most of the doctors that help to treat your arthritis will give some medicine like painkillers or anti inflammatory. This way is also the most effective way to treat arthritis. This disease can’t be treated permanently but there are ways to manage it.

Coraline Film - Theme and Ideas

This week in our English we have been learning about themes and ideas of a movie. We also talked about the different themes and ideas that we've seen in the Coraline film. After that, we need to do our task for this week so we can move up our licenses. We can decided the task that we want to do, it's either a mind map or a theme guide booklet. I decided to do the mind map using Coggle because it's easier for me to do. The characters that I've use to my work is the cat, other mother and Wybie. I will leave a link if you can't read it from here. Link. I also put the images of my characters into the blog because I can't put it with the mind map.

What am I learning?

On this task I have been learning about the theme that I've seen while watching the Film. Also the things that showing or related to my theme. Most of my ideas are the characters on the film since my theme is about how looks can be deceiving.

How does this result show my learning?

My is showing that I know what the definition of theme and ideas and being able to tell who are the characters on the movie are showing the theme that I picked.

What am I wondering?

While doing this task I am wondering why themes are important to a movie and if there is a movie or film that don't need to use a theme or ideas.

Photography - Visual Arts

Yesterday for arts we have been spending some time taking some pictures using some toys. We have a dinosaur and soldiers toys. Some of the photos that we take is outside, we use plants for their background so it will look like that it is in the forest. I also analyse my photography and find out what is the focal point, rule of thirds, leading lines and symmetry/asymmetry.

Focal Point -  On my photography you can see that the focus is on the dinosaur so I will say that the focal point is the dinosaur figure.
Leading Line - I can't see any leading lines on the photo.
Symmetry/Asymmetry - For this photography I think there is not symmetry because none of the figure that we used didn't make any reflection or shadows.

Photography - Visual Arts

Last week we have been taking some photos using some of the soldiers figure. We take some pictures outside and inside the building, so we have a lot of different types of photography. After we take some pictures we choose of them and we did a little bit of summary about it. We answer some questions about that photography. We use the emulation matrix that our teacher gave to us to answer some question. Here are some of the photos that we have been taken last week.

This is the summary that I did using the photo that I take.

Subject Matter

Form

Composition

Content/ Meaning

What do you see in the photograph?

I can see the soldier with many pieces of woods around it and in the background.

Is your photograph in black and white or colour?

My photograph is black and white.

How have you used focal points and leading lines?

We used the army as the focal points and some of the wood is the leading lines.

What was your initial reaction to the photograph?

At first I found it cool because the colour saying that this photograph was taken long time ago.

Does the photograph include subject matter you don’t want?

No, because i like this photo so much.

Do your figures stand-out from their surroundings or are they hidden?

The army is not that obvious because the colour of the photo is making it the same colour with the background of this image.

Do you use symmetry or asymmetry? Have you used the Rule of Thirds?

I can't say that we used any of these things in my photography.

Does  your photography appear to be a real scene?

It is showing a war that happened a long time ago.

What were your i-pad camera settings?

We used a filter to make the photography be more realistic.

If you do have unwanted subject matter, how would you change the next reshoot?

I don’t like that there are a lot of woods and it makes the photography confusing so next time i will make the camera higher so there not alot of woods covering the soldier.

What is the direction of the light? Is the light strong or soft? Do you have cast shadows?

The light is soft because we used a different filter so it changes the lighting of the image.

Is there a shallow or deep space represented? Is your camera angle low or high?

We use a low angle to take this photography.

Does the photograph express an idea? Explain

My photography is showing the idea of war after a long time.

Do you use close-ups or distant views?

We used a medium close up in my photography.
