After learning about the slave trade triangle we moved on to our next topic. The next topic that we have been learning is the Parihaka. We are spending our social studies class periods exploring more about this topic, we watched some videos and search some facts about Parihaka. Same as we did on the slave trade triangle, we also put the Parihaka work on the same map that we used for the slave trade triangle. In this blog we will be analyzing this music, we will be looking what is the message of the lyrics of this song and how it is connected to the Parihaka.
This song encouraging us to stand for ourselves and never let other people treat us unfairly with other many people. It is telling us to spread awareness and never let other people use violence to us.
What line explains their passive resistance method?
Te Whiti he used the language of the spirit,
Then stood accused, the madman and his dream
What does "you can't pull out the root?" refer to?
In my opinion, I think this lines means that we can't really erase those thing that happened in the past. This line is also used in the Parihaka music. I think this means that even thought the thing that happened in Parihaka is already done we can't still forget and it will always be pat of our history.
Give evidence of their determination?
I know Te Whiti will never be defeated,
And even at the darkest hour,
His presence will remain.
I'll sing to you the song of Parihaka.
How does this song show the significance of Parihaka?
As we all know that this song is about Parihaka, from the lyrics and the title. This song is really helpful for us so we can still remember what really happened. The song shows how the Parihaka can be really important to us in the past and even now.
How many people are affected?
1,600 troops are affected and so Te whiti and Tohu got arrested.
To what extent are people affected?
Those people that are involved in Parihaka got kicked out from their house, some of them got arrested and some women suffer and getting raped.
Kamusta Shiela, This is a really great work that you have done in Social Studies, about Parihaka. You're writing is structured and you have detailed answers. I like how you've included in the song in your post, so the readers can understand what you're talking about. Anyway keep up the great work.
Hello Shiela, My opinions about this blog post is great, it is well constructed and is very easily understandable. One of the things that I have liked about this is the fact that you have included some of the phrases in the music as your answers. It shows that you have a deep understanding of the song. With that also how you have answered the other questions proves this point as well. Nonetheless there are some parts where information is lacking such as the last two questions. I felt as if the work was rushed to an extent. Though with that aside, this is blog post to read.
